(by The Wet Markets)

The Saguaro House near 3rd St. / Jefferson St. Station

A band from Ahwatukee performing live at a bar adjacent to Chase Field during the MLB playoffs.

Chase Field’s design incorporated a former fruit warehouse, built in 1924, that backs right up to the train tracks that cross under 7th St. Citrus is one of the “Five Cs of Arizona.” Cotton, Cattle, Citrus, Copper, and Climate were the main drivers of Arizona’s early economy, after it became a state on Valentine’s Day in 1912—just sixty-one days before the sinking of the Titanic. The Boston Red Sox would beat the New York Giants (now the San Francisco Giants) in the World Series later that same year, which also marked Boston’s first season playing at Fenway Park. In Phoenix, adjacent to Chase Field, there is a parking garage with several bars built into the ground level that serve as popular postgame dives. One entrance to the garage, tucked between two of the bars, features a reconstruction of the façade of the building that originally stood on this site: the Central Wholesale Terminal. The CWT opened for business in 1930 as the first modern produce distribution and cold storage facility in Phoenix, giving grocers a place to stow their goods away from the desert heat and conveniently close to the train depot. It helped ensure a year-round supply of fruits and vegetables to the whole Valley at a time when the population was booming. One of the businesses that rented space in the Central Wholesale Terminal was Basha’s, the local grocery chain founded in 1932 by the sons of Lebanese immigrants that remains essential to the Valley’s identity today. The band in this recording is named after the international state-sponsored cover-up alleging that the COVID-19 outbreak began at a wet market in Wuhan, China. The subject of the song is self-apparent.

LYRICS

My feet, they’re getting pretty tired
But my toes, they’re pointing straight at you
All I want is what’s right in front of me
Can you see, it’s you?

My hands, well they’re ready to hold you
And my heart ‘bout to overflow
My bones, oh they’re aching baby please
Let me be something for you

Let me be something for you
Let me be something for you
Let me be something for you
Let me be something for you

Three times I met a girl named Sally
Two were rich and the other was tall
Once I dreamt that in a blind back alley
I would fall, I would lose it all

But you light me on fire and you put me out
Yeah, you light me on fire and you put me out
Yeah, you light me on fire and you put me out
Light me on fire and you put me out

The sun shines on a summer’s day
The moon is waxing o’er Japan
Around the world time is frozen
When I hold your hand

The snow melts on the mountainside
Beneath the frost the Earth is bare
All else fades from existence
When I kiss your hair

So won’t you let me be something for you
Let me be something for you
Please won’t you let me be something for you
Oh let me be something for you

‘Cause you light me on fire and you put me out
Yeah you light me on fire and you put me out
Yeah you light me on fire and you put me out
Yeah you light me on fire and you put me out
